Movie News and Randomness

I think it’s about time for another installment of movie news and blather.  Here’s the movie news that’s got me all atwitter this week.

1. Labor Day Trailer

I’ve been reading about this movie for awhile, but this is the first time that I actually sat down and watched the trailer.  I love Kate Winslet, and while I’m more lukewarm on Josh Brolin, I have to say that this one looks pretty compelling.  It’s about an escaped convict who ends up staying in the home of a single mother and her 13-year-old son.  He wins them over, but it can’t end well, right?  It’s based on a book by Joyce Maynard, and it looks pretty good, although reviews have been mixed so far.

2. Key and Peele are getting a movie

There’s no plot or anything yet.  Not even a premise, but Universal has tapped them for a movie deal, so that’s something, I guess.  Judd Apatow is going to share the writing credits with the duo.  I’ll see this because I like all three of them, but I expect it to be too long, just like every Apatow movie EVER. (Deadline)

3. Maleficent Trailer

Maleficent has always been the Disney villain that scares me the most.  Even though Sleeping Beauty is a really, really boring story, the character of Maleficent has always fascinated me.  The trailer for the Angelina Jolie vehicle is finally out, and while I don’t really have warm fuzzy feelings for Jolie as an actress or celebrity, I have to say it looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

4. 50 Shades of Disaster Grey moves release date back

Like anyone is surprised by this.  The studio insists that this has absolutely nothing to do with the male lead dropping out and needing to be replaced.  This has to do with a busy summer schedule they didn’t want to compete with.  So now it’s scheduled for Valentine’s Day 2015.  Because nothing says Valentine’s Day like a heroine getting busy with an abusive control freak who demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge about the BDSM community. (Vulture)

5. Divergent Trailer

I guess this is the first real theatrical trailer for the movie based on the popular YA book.  Look, I wasn’t totally sold on the book but can still recognize a story with  massive appeal.  Do I think that this trailer tries to capitalize on much of The Hunger Games’s success? Yes, but I’ll still see the movie.

What movie news are you excited about this week?
