I’m trying a new feature on the blog.  Inspired by Ticket to Anywhere’s What I Watched, I’ve decided to try to post on Sundays about what movies and/or TV shows I watched the week before.  Some weeks will be epic, and some weeks…won’t be.  There’s no hurt in trying, though, right?  The format might change as I figure out what I want this to be.

Movies:
The Witches
Miss Representation (documentary)

TV:
Game of Thrones Season 1
New Girl – 1×20 “Normal”

Thoughts on what I watched:

A viewing of The Witches came about after a nostalgic chat with one of my friends last weekend.  She and I were talking about favorite guilty pleasures, and it wasn’t long before we were reminiscing about how scary The Witches was and how much we loved it.  Let me tell you: it holds up.  It’s still really scary and kind of gross.  I’ve never read the Roald Dahl book the movie is based on, but I might check it out now.

Miss Representation is a documentary that’s been on my radar for a while, and I was lucky enough to track down a copy this week.  While the documentary–which focuses on how media influences girls and women–doesn’t necessarily present anything completely groundbreaking, it’s still a good documentary to help introduce the topic and get people talking about it.  I was upset while watching it–it’s an upsetting topic–but it’s worth watching.

I don’t know why it took me as long as it did to start watching Game of Thrones, but now that I have, I can’t seem to stop.  The show is so well done, you guys.  Everything from the cadence of the actors’ speech to the costumes to the sets is impeccably done, and I’m enjoying every minute of this rich epic fantasy series.  It’s so good.

This week’s episode of New Girl was very funny and offered viewers a great chance to see what the cast does best: weird group shenanigans.  The “True American” drinking game scenes were the best (and it isn’t long before an actual version of the game surfaces online), and I loved watching Dermot Mulroney try to hold his own with Jess’s friends.  I want Fancyman to stick around for a while, but I worry that won’t be the case.

What did you watch this week?

  1. I went on a Game of Thrones marathon this weekend! I’m all caught up except for last night’s episode. It’s both mind boggling and good. I cannot believe the things that go on but I cannot look away either. Now I really want to read the books but I have no time.

    1. I haven’t started the second season yet because I was so upset I have to watch happier things for a little while. As for the books–I’m enjoying the first one, but it’s such a major time commitment that it might have to wait for this summer.
