It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.  The purpose of the meme is to discuss books we are reading this week, as well as books we completed the previous week.

Books I Completed Last Week:

Keeping the Castle by Patricia Kindl: A very funny, very frothy little historical story that will work for readers who like Jane Austen.  Review to come.
Faking Faith by Josie Bloss: I wanted to like this one, but I just couldn’t.  Super didactic and weirdly stereotypical.  Review to come.
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson: Beautifully written and very moving, but way, way too long.  Review to come.
Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler and Maira Kalman: I loved this one.  Very creative and well written and kind of like peering into my own uncomfortable past.
Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally: While this was an improvement from Catching Jordan, it’s not a standout for me.

Books I’m Reading This Week:
Who I Kissed by Janet Gurtler: I want to like this one.  We’ll see.
The Year of the Beasts by Cecil Castellucci: This one looks really interesting.

What are you reading this week?

  3. I really enjoyed Keeping the Castle too, lots of fun!

Why We Broke Up sounds good – I still haven’t read anything by Daniel Handler, either.

  7. I recently read Stealing Parker and I actually liked it less than Catching Jordan – I thought the first novel was really full of heart but when I thought about SP after reading I realized it’s basically the exact same formula.

It’s EXACTLY the same formula, only this time I didn’t have to deal with any of Jordan’s crappy poetry.
