Gentle Readers, welcome! It’s time for another installment of Things I’m Currently Obsessed With. Previous installments can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
1. Tired Pony – “Get On the Road” (featuring Zooey Deschanel)
The live videos of this song have another woman singing Deschanel’s part, and they don’t do it for me the way the original version does. As a result, you have a link to a youtube video that’s mostly just audio. It’s still worth it, though. I’m so obsessed with this song right now that it almost hurts. I think something about the two voices together works incredibly well. The lyrics resonate deeply with me and are all sorts of inspiring for the story that I’m working on these days.
2. The Unusuals on Netflix
It’s no secret that I’m kind of in love with Jeremy Renner. I think he’s a really great actor (and he sings, too, if you didn’t know), and okay, yes, I find him attractive. In my search to watch everything Renner’s been in, I ended up tuning into the short-lived The Unusuals, which is available on Netflix (I think it’s on Hulu, too). Despite the fact that it’s a procedural, it boasts a pretty impressive cast and has the perfect sort of dry, dark humor that I love. There’s only 9 episodes, but it’s totally worth it–Renner is that good.
3. Reading about Prometheus
Disappointed as I was in the movie (seriously, seriously disappointed), I can’t ignore the fact that the movie is polarizing, fascinating, and has the internet all atwitter about what did or didn’t happen. There are a ton of great articles to look at about the movie, and I can’t stop reading them.
SPOILERS, obviously.
- Pajiba’s 24 reasons to enjoy the movie
- Prometheus was asked to cut key scene for rating
- The one big remaining question about the movie (this one is great)
- 15 big ideas in Prometheus
Oh, internet. Never change.
4. Tom Hiddleston does impressions
As great as I thought Hiddleston was in The Avengers, I didn’t ever think of him as being particularly attractive…until I watched this compilation video of him doing impressions. It’s awesome, you guys. He does Alan Rickman, Owen Wilson (it’s dead-on), a velociraptor…amazing. Totally worth watching, even if you’re not really a fan (or even if you don’t know who he is).
5. Bunheads on ABC Family
The network has only aired the pilot, but I’m totally hooked. I love me some Amy Sherman-Palladino, and I think Sutton Foster is killing it as Michelle. Her facial expressions alone are worth watching the show for. There’s a lot of potential here, and if they can work out some of the pacing issues (which are standard fare for a pilot episode), it could be one of the most entertaining shows of the summer. YES IT COULD.
